Now I understand why it is called the music BUSINESS. There is a lot of stuff to deal with. And I am allergic to admin, numbers and shit like that. So far from being a box ticker I am a prevaricator of the first order. I sit down to do the thing I have been avoiding doing, whatever it is on any given day, and before I know it I am playing the piano, playing with the dog, playing Scrabble or eyeing up the bar area. I know I know I should know better but I have little to no self control. So my excuse for a lack of progress this week has been I have been wiped out by the latest virus to be doing the rounds. A few days drooping around culminating in a face down sweathathon for 24 hours after which I feel bloody fantastic. Purged of gin and crisps on we go…..
The amazing feeling of well being could also have a lot to do with Jenny Hill - most spectacular double bass player the world has seen - her personal story as to how she found the bass or it found her is amazing I will make her tell it to you direct or at least ask her permission before I tell it on her behalf - but for now I dont want to scare her away. Because she is FABULOUS. I will drop a wee bit of our rehearsal onto this platform tomorrow…give you a wee preview…. her wee face when she plays is like a sunny day. Really.
So yes we are going through all my songs and deciding which ones we will do …. a 45 minute set. Just piano and bass for now - hopefully playing in places where we can slope into a corner and be ignored as it’s all about getting the confidence and experience before launching into the wider world.
Also had a hilarious experience with a dear friend and eye poppingly good producer Bill Gill which I will report back on…….and another song which is going to be on an upcoming album in the hands of another new pal producer Mark Ellis.
Life is good and remember this has just started for me and that proves without a shadow of a doubt. It is Never Too Late
